I am a member of the Game Angling Instructors Association (GAIA)  as an Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructor, holding APGAI in all three disciplines, namely Trout/Seatrout fishing, Salmon fishing and Flydressing.  I have over 50 years of experience in fly fishing.  This experience includes over 20 years as a river keeper on some of England’s finest trout fishing, salmon fishing and coarse fishing rivers and streams.

I have over 40 years of fly fishing tuition behind me and have written regularly on the subject in various publications.   I have one book to my own name and have contributed to others by well known authors as well as demonstrating at shows and Game Fairs in the UK, Holland, the USA and Germany.   I have also trout fished in France and New Zealand as well as in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

During my many years of working closely with fisheries and fish I have learned much about their habits, requirements and behaviour.   This experience has made me think hard about the fishing tackle and equipment we use today and I am well placed to offer advice as to the rods, reels, lines, flies and fishing tackle you will need for your chosen style of fishing.   As a river keeper I worked closely with fishermen of all abilities on mixed trout fishing, salmon fishing and coarse fishing on the Hampshire Avon, managed trout fishing lakes in East Sussex before finally becoming Head River Keeper to the Duke of Rutland on the Haddon Hall waters.   I can offer full fly fishing instruction when necessary or, if preferred, a more discrete guided fly fishing experience and ghillie service.

As a fly tier I have taught for more than 30 years and have demonstrated all over the UK as well as Germany, Holland and the USA.   I tie and teach everything from a Black Gnat to a Classic Salmon fly including numerous low profile trout flies that I have developed over the years, based on my very close working relationship with trout.   I have a wide range of fly patterns to my name and currently have three fly tying DVD’s on the market, two of which are aimed at beginners whilst the third is based around my own range of dry Mayfly ‘hatch stage’ patterns.

In keeping with modern teaching and coaching practice I have attended a Child Awareness Course, have been CRB checked, and carry Third Party Insurance covering myself, those being instructed by me and those working under me on a day to day basis.    I have a First Aid Certificate and all venues I use in my work are Risk Assessed.
