Guided Fishing Tours
Experience a guided fishing trip when you are visiting Peak District National Park. You have a choice of at least three rivers, more than one small lake and one large reservoir offering a wide variety of fishing styles. Choose from dry fly only river beats or others where you can experience dry fly, nymph and traditional wet fly tactics during the day. Alternatively sample stalking techniques on the small still waters or the combined traditional and modern methods needed for success on the larger water at Carsington where I can take you afloat for a days boat fishing.
The day will consist of an introduction to the water being fished, the styles of fishing that can be used together with any fly identification or entomology needed to interpret the hatch conditions as the day goes along. As your I guide will keep close and advise you about any changes in conditions, point out known lies and, if you need any help on your casting we can work on it as the day progresses. Alternatively we can build casting tuition into the package.
River and Stream Fishing
Derbyshire is renowned for the quality of its trout streams and rivers. They are normally crystal clear and many of them run through limestone countryside making them rich in both waterborne fly life and terrestrial insects that offer a varied challenge for the visiting fly fisherman. I can arrange guided fishing tours on some of the prettiest rivers in Derbyshire. On a guided river day I will introduce you to the river, the fly life that you are likely to encounter in the day and show you the runs, lies and secret places the fish love. The river Wye has a unique stock of wild breeding rainbow trout and I can help you target these beautiful fish on two of it’s most picturesque beats. I will have with me a full set of flies for you to use during the day, many of which have been designed specifically for these waters. I will advise on the where and when of hatches and spinner falls and will be on hand throughout with tips to help you have a successful day.
Cane and Silk
A day on a superb wild trout stream complete with a cane (bamboo) rod, silk line and traditional dry flies. There is nothing quite like playing a fish on a built cane rod. Feel every movement. I will supply the bamboo rod, the silk line, the local traditional and more modern flies for the day and act as your guide/ghillie all the time you are on the river.
Boat Fishing
Enjoy a guided fishing trip with me on Carsington Water near Ashbourne which is some 700 acres in area and well stocked with both rainbow and brown trout. Here, I will introduce you to wind lanes, slicks, structure and depth indicators which are all essential to success on a large water like this. I will organise your boat, advise you on flies and tactics and provide any tackle, flies and accessories you may need to make for a successful and enjoyable experience.
Small Stillwaters
If this is your choice of fly fishing in derbyshire then I can introduce you to the flies you will need and the various methods used when stalking trout on these smaller, usually gin clear waters. Good eyesight is an advantage here as the fishing can require pinpoint accuracy and stealth is a must if you are to make the most of your day. I will be on hand to help spot your fish with you and to advise on tactics and fly choices.
“Have rods - will travel” Ghillie Service
Need a Ghillie/Instructor for yourself or members of your party? Salmon fishing has never been simple because they are such fickle fish in fresh water but I can greatly improve the odds for you. I will travel and provide a Ghillie Service for you. I will show you how to fish the pools and lies,
